Built-in bookcases & cabinets

The job we do most. Floor-to-ceiling shelves either side of a fireplace, around a window, over a door or across a whole wall, with cabinets below if you want somewhere to hide the clutter.

  • Face frames and doors in solid poplar for paint, or oak, walnut or cherry
  • Adjustable shelves that don't sag: thick, edged, and supported
  • Crown, base and trim matched to the rest of the room
  • Lighting, outlets and TV openings planned in the drawing

Window seats

A window seat turns an awkward bay or a dormer into the best seat in the house, and the space underneath into storage that actually gets used.

  • Full-extension drawers or a lift-up lid with a soft-close stay
  • Panelled fronts to match your trim
  • Bookshelves either side if the window allows
  • We can arrange the cushion with a local upholsterer

Custom closets

Reach-in or walk-in, planned around what you actually own: how much hangs long, how much folds, how many pairs of shoes. No wire shelving, no wasted corners.

  • Painted, or natural white oak with a hardwax-oil finish

Kitchens

Full kitchens built as furniture: inset or overlay doors, painted or wood, and butcher-block tops we make ourselves. It's our biggest job, and the one where being able to scribe every cabinet to an old wall shows most. We work with your countertop installer, plumber and electrician, or recommend ones we trust.

  • Shaker, flat-panel or beaded doors, made in our shop
  • Islands with storage, seating or both
  • Maple or walnut butcher block, made to size
  • Pantries, hoods and open shelves to match

Staircases

Most stairs we see are sound underneath and tired on top. We refinish them, or go further: new treads, new rails and balusters, painted risers. We also build new stairs where a house needs one.

  • New white oak or red oak treads over the old stair
  • Handrails and balusters turned or square
  • Newel posts made to match the house
  • Runner-ready, if you want carpet down the middle

Tables & solid-wood furniture

Dining tables, benches, desks and consoles in solid wood that will outlast the house. Choose the wood and we'll show you the actual boards before we start.

Cedar porches, steps and railings built the way the house's first ones were. Every porch is different underneath, so this one we only price after we've seen it.
